Is it Plant Food?

One of the biggest tales of gardening is that fertilizer is plant food.  Plants actually make their own food in their leaves and stems via the energy from the sun.  Fertilizer acts like a vitamin and mineral supplement that stimulates food production.

Fertilizer contains nutrients that help the plant grow and stay healthy, but will only when the fertilizer is applied in appropriate amounts.  Don't be fooled by the "more I apply, the better the plant will grow" misconception.
